We've collected up the five greatest spots to visit after the New Year, whether you want to take advantage of the after-Christmas crowds and hit the slopes, or you're in desperate need of some vitamin C.
1. Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Have you never heard of it before? One of the reasons this dusty, ocean-side village is so flawlessly Pura Vida is because of this.
While getting to Santa Teresa is a little more challenging than traveling to other surf communities, once you're there, you'll probably never want to leave.
This town, which attracts surfers, travelers, and couples wishing to get away from it all for a few days, has a wonderfully lovely vibe.
As you watch the pink-hued sun set over the ocean in front of you and listen to the soothing sounds of the rainforest behind you, we know you'll be grateful.
Not to mention the fantastic restaurants that line the main street in this town. And if you think yourself a sushi expert, we guarantee you'll be blown away.
How did a little hamlet in the middle of the jungle come to be home to some of the best Asian, Italian, and Argentinian cuisine we've ever tasted? That's something we're still undecided on.
Just make sure you don't leave Santa Teresa without sampling one of their native sodas for a taste of Costa Rican cuisine. You can't go wrong with any of their Casado meals, of course.
2. Aspen, Colorado
Simply told, Aspen is a winter wonderland of excellence. It's quite easy to enjoy your time here with freshly powdered snow dotting the lovely ski resorts (ideally) and the picturesque Colorado Rockies around you.
Don't worry if skiing isn't your thing. Apres-ski is a way of life in Aspen, and it's just as vital as hitting the slopes, in our opinion. From the W hotel to AJax Tavern to the J Bar at the Hotel Jerome, you won't have trouble finding a space.
You'll be pleased to return to your humble cottage, relax back, and enjoy a great glass of red in the heated pool after a day of high-end shopping and checking out some of the wonderful winter festivals that take place in this quaint town.
3. Miami, Florida
The majority of visitors to this lovely city come over the holidays, which is why we believe you should do the polar opposite.
After the dust has settled, the best time to visit the "Magic City" is. The weather is ideal, you'll spend less time stuck in traffic, and you'll have a better chance of securing a table at one of the city's many fantastic restaurants.
Are you trying to figure out what to do on your perfect peaceful Miami day? While sipping a Miami Vice under a cabana, you'll easily lose track of time while taking up the turquoise water and white beach of South Beach.
As the sun begins to drop, make your way to Wynwood, where you should stop by Miami Mojito Company for one of the best mojitos you'll ever have before checking out the Wynwood Walls, which display some of the best art in the city.
Of course, no trip to Miami is complete without a stop in Cuba. Spend an evening in Little Havana, we recommend it.
Versailles has been a fixture in the area since 1971, and you'll see why once you try one of their Cuban sandwiches.
4. Big Sky, Montana
Big Sky is without a doubt one of the most beautiful alpine villages in the world. Not to mention the enchantment that occurs when it is blanketed with snow. It's noted for having the "largest skiing in the United States."
This village actually has everything you might want in a winter holiday. It's a spot where you'll immediately feel at home, thanks to its stunning ski runs and some fairly fantastic local breweries.
Our favorite thing about the area is how many things there are for everyone—for starters, visiting Yellowstone National Park is an incredible experience in and of itself—or spending an afternoon with the family trekking Ousel Falls (yes, it's even more gorgeous in the winter).
Perhaps you'll try your hand at dogsledding or spend a romantic afternoon in one of Big Sky's hot springs.
To cut a long tale short, you'll be hard pressed to run out of things to do throughout your stay.
5. Baja California Sur, Mexico
Without a question, January is one of the greatest months to visit Baja. It's not only picture-perfect weather (sunny, dry, and warm), but it's also ideal whale-watching season, and if you haven't seen the beauty of the peninsula's blue and gray whales, you won't soon forget it.
The magnificent terrain that surrounds Baja is well-known. From the crystal clear blue seas below you to the mountains above you, the region is brimming with beauty and history.
You should also spend some time relaxing in the well-known Cabo San Lucas. Rosarita, Tijuana, and Valle de Guadalupe, on the other hand, are well worth visiting only for the amazing food alternatives.
Looking for a way to escape off the beaten road and have some fun? Todos Santos has some of the greatest surf in the area. Cerritos is a terrific surfing town with even better people. The town has a reputation for rapidly making visitors feel at ease.
